Lutron lighting and motorized shades
RA3 and HomeWorks cannot be bought without an authorized dealer. I am one, and I run RA3 in my own house.
Lutron is the reason most people start down this road, and it is the line where design decisions show up most visibly. Which loads go on which dimmer, how many buttons a keypad needs, what each button says, and where the keypads live are all decided long before install, and getting them wrong is the difference between a system people use and one they route around.
I work through the load schedule, dimmer and switch selection per circuit, keypad placement and engraving, and the scenes themselves. Scenes are where most systems fall down: too many, badly named, and nobody remembers what they do. A small number of scenes that match how the house is actually used beats a long list every time.
Motorized shades bring their own decisions, and inside the house I sell Lutron shades so they run on the same processor and keypads as the lights. Fabric openness against glare and privacy, roller size against window width, pocket and fascia detailing, and whether the wiring can still be run where the shades need to go. These get coordinated with the interior finishes rather than bolted on afterward.
Astronomic timeclock schedules, occupancy behavior, and integration with the rest of the system get programmed remotely once the hardware is in.
